Improving lives a company mission both in and out of the office

If you want to really know what it’s like to work for a company, go straight to the water cooler and listen. But if that’s not an option, surveying the employees is a good back up. Every year the Chicago Tribune does just that as part of their annual Top Workplace program.

For the eighth time in nine years, Medline was named a Tribune Top Workplace after more than 1,400 of the company’s Chicagoland employees, chosen at random, completed the program survey which measured company qualities such as company leadership, communication, career opportunities, working environment, managerial skills, pay and benefits.

“Our company’s mission is to improve the quality of people’s lives.  For our employees, Medline offers a wide variety of benefits, corporate well-being programs and initiatives for career growth and training and development. We’re proud of a culture that promotes a healthy lifestyle and drives personal and professional growth. Our vibrant culture helps enhance employee engagement, and Medline is as an employer of choice in the communities we work in,” says Karen Ferraro, chief human resources officer, Medline.

Medline offers employees a variety of health and welfare plans to fit different needs and budgets in addition to healthcare, dental and vision benefits. Onsite benefits at headquarters focus on healthy living and well-being, and include a free fitness center, vegetable garden, flu-shots, mammograms and more. In addition, the corporate cafeteria serves fresh, healthy options and the company substantially subsidizes healthy food to promote eating well.

Beyond the company walls, Medline’s Corporate Social Responsibility programming strives to make the communities where we live and work more resilient and sustainable. Whether through disaster preparedness efforts to minimize impact on hospitals and patients, or partnering with national non-profit’s with a local presence, Medline takes the focus of improving people’s lives as a mantra for both customers and employees alike.

In 2018, more than 2,600 Chicagoland companies were initially invited to participate in the Tribune Top Workplace program, and in the end, more than 75,000 total employee surveys were submitted. The top 150 were unveiled at an event held at Chicago’s Soldier Field.
