Consistent hand hygiene compliance is essential for building a culture of safety at any healthcare facility. That’s why The Leapfrog Group’s 2021 hand hygiene standard requires hospitals to document up to 200 hand hygiene opportunities per month. To help advance best practices, Illinois-based Silver Cross Hospital is evolving its hand hygiene compliance strategy and now implementing electronic monitoring to accurately measure hand hygiene compliance.

The Medline Newsroom spoke with Silver Cross Hospital’s vice president of patient care services and also a nursing director about their strategy to meet the new standards and accurately capture hand hygiene performance. The hospital recently implemented IntelObserve®, the only electronic hand hygiene monitoring solution that uses near-field magnetic induction (NFMI), plus a proprietary form of Artificial Intelligence (AI), to accurately capture hand hygiene opportunities and compliance events, and push actionable data to leaders and real-time alerts to front line workers.
