A groundbreaking ceremony in Hammond, La. yesterday kicked off construction of Medline’s new $45 million distribution center expansion project. The 650,000 square foot facility will create 350 construction jobs and 450 jobs for area residents when in full operation.

Bill Abington, Medline executive vice president for global operations, joined Louisiana Governor John Bel Edwards onsite at the event along with Tangipahoa and Hammond leaders.

“What I think is the common denominator between state and local government is how we’ve worked together on a project that balances economic development, support for Louisiana healthcare and the needs of this community,” said Abington. “Medline has been a part of the Northshore for 20 years and now we are ensured to be here for another generation. This groundbreaking is in many ways a testament to the hard work of our team members to make sure our frontline healthcare system is supported to the full extent.”

Louisiana’s new Northshore home will serve a growing number of hospitals and nursing homes across the state and southern United States. The distribution center is scheduled to begin receiving in early 2022.
