More Than 500 Medline Employees Engage in 2018 Heart Walk Campaign
By Karen Frey | September 26, 2018
More than 500 Medline employees made heart health their mission this September. They either pounded the pavement, donated or participated in events related to the 2018 American Heart Association Heart Walk campaign at Medline. Through these efforts, Medline and its employees made a combined donation of $70,000 to the AHA.
Awards and Recognitions
Brian Shields, executive director, AHA, presented Medline with the Silver Level Workplace Health Achievement award for our efforts in creating a healthy work environment for our employees. The AHA recognizes the power of Medline’s efforts to promote good health and the effects this has on fostering good business.
The campaign culminated with the annual Heart Walk on Sunday, September 23, where Team Medline with 470 people registered to walk, joined thousands on our beautiful Northfield, Ill., campus. Attendees walked, ran or jogged, in support of the AHA and their mission to build healthier lives, free of cardiovascular disease and stroke.
The AHA also recognized Scott Mickelson, inventory control manager for Medline’s SPT division, as a 2018 AHA Walker of the Week. Scott shared his heroic story about saving his brother from a heart attack in 2013.
Sharing Their Stories
We also heard from employees Jennie Kien, sales business analyst for Medline homecare, and Lisa Bauer, director of product management for Medline’s nutrition and pharmaceuticals, who paid homage to heart health awareness. Jennie shared her grandfather’s story and the strides he made in the world of cardiology; and Lisa told fellow Medline employees about ways to detect heart complications when they arise.
With heart disease still being the number one cause of death in the United States, Medline is proud to have employees who support our mission. Through awareness and research, we can all work toward a much more heart-healthy life.
