Medline hosts pressure injury prevention education session at WOCNext® 2024

In early 2024, Medline introduced OptiView, a first-of-its-kind transparent wound dressing to aid in pressure injury prevention. OptiView features an innovative clear design that allows caregivers to quickly and easily inspect, monitor and blanch skin with the dressing in place. On the heels of its launch, Medline recently partnered with clinicians to continue bringing pressure injury prevention to the forefront of industry conversation at the WOCNext® 2024 event.
Medline hosted a panel discussion at the event, which serves as a crucial forum for learning and networking in the wound care sector. The panelists consisted of three highly regarded WOC nurses with over 50 years of WOC nursing experience combined from organizations around the country. Each of these professionals highlighted valuable insight and practical experiences from their approach to pressure injury prevention and the use of OptiView across diverse clinical settings and patient populations.
- Barbra Moens, DNP, RN, CWON Chicago-based – Discussed her trial experience with the innovative product OptiView, emphasizing strategies for obtaining approval for its purchase within a health system or facility.
- Amy Ehrlich, BSN, RN, CWOCN, Methodist Healthcare System – After implementing OptiView dressings within her facility, she began exploring its additional capabilities, subsequently presenting a poster at SAWC Spring 2024 on the application of OptiView in treating DTPI. Learn more here
- Holly Baglio, DNP, RN-BC, MSN, CWOCN, BS, Colorado-based – After being an early adopter of OptiView, she began utilizing the product in case studies focused on diverse skin tones, resulting in the publication of two separate studies on both Black and Hispanic skin tones. Learn more here
“I chose to speak about OptiView because it is such an innovative product, I wanted to highlight the unique niche that we found it for besides just prevention.”

“We were extremely excited to be able to showcase our innovative wound care technology at WOCNext, but it was also an opportunity to bring together WOC nurses and start an engaging conversation in which they can learn from one another. Education is a crucial component of helping clinicians stay on top of evidence-based practices for wound care,” said Patti Turner, senior manager of clinical solutions at Medline.
Vicky Pontieri-Lewis, MS, RN, ACNS-BC, CWOCN, WOCN® Society President added, “The Wound, Ostomy, and Continence Nurses Society (WOCN®) recognizes the critical role that education plays in preventing pressure injuries. Our commitment to advancing the knowledge and skills of wound, ostomy, and continence nurses at WOCNext is unwavering.”
Since the launch of OptiView, facilities have seen positive outcomes as well as less product used per patient. This panelist breakfast event showcased three perspectives on different use cases of how and why this product is changing the skin health game.
“I chose to speak about OptiView because it is such an innovative product, I wanted to highlight the unique niche that we found it for besides just prevention,” said Amy Ehrlich, BSN, RN, CWOCN, Methodist Healthcare System. “Our clinical practice can influence NPIAP guidelines, so don’t be afraid to think outside the box when it comes to new technology.”
