Medline Leases Distribution Center Space to FedEx Ground in Bryan County, Georgia

Medline is pleased to announce that it has leased a portion of a new state-of-the-art, LEED-certified distribution center to FedEx Ground in Richmond Hill, GA.

FedEx Ground has entered into an agreement to lease 415,000 square feet within the new space under development by Medline in Belfast Commerce Park. Located in close proximity to the deep water Port of Savannah, intermodal freight carriers and interstate highway access, the 1.2 million square foot distribution center will expand service to a growing customer base for both companies along the eastern seaboard. Construction is scheduled for completion in the spring of 2022.

“FedEx Ground plays an integral part in Medline’s logistics operations and we’re excited to operate next door to it,” said Bill Abington, Executive Vice President of Global Operations. “Being adjacent to our largest transportation provider, which gets vital medical products to our healthcare customers quickly and efficiently is a great advantage.”

The additional distribution space for FedEx Ground will complement existing company operations in the Savannah area, adding valuable capacity and increasing efficiency in handling the growing volume of packages being shipped by e-commerce customers. FedEx Ground will employ hundreds of local citizens in this facility and will add to the workforce as necessary to meet growing customer demand for its services.

“We’re doubling our package capacity in the Savannah market, which is very exciting for our customers and the community,” said Bob Holcombe, Vice President of Southern Region Operations for FedEx Ground. “Having our operations so close to Medline will also enable us to efficiently serve their needs by shipping medical supplies directly to consumers across the county.”

Announcement of the lease agreement was made by Georgia Ports Authority Executive Director Griff Lynch during his State of the Port virtual address on October 22. “Developments like this one highlight the wealth of opportunity available in this market, with enough space to accommodate 36 million additional square feet in Bryan County alone,” said Lynch. “At this location, Medline and FedEx Ground will take advantage of direct interstate access to the Port of Savannah, less than 30 miles from the distribution center.”

“We are excited that FedEx Ground has chosen to locate a new sortation facility in a portion of Medline’s new building in the Belfast Commerce Park in Richmond Hill,” said Sean Register, chairman of the Development Authority of Bryan County (DABC). “We are hopeful that the added capacity of this new facility will give FedEx Ground the flexibility it needs to continue serving this rapidly growing market and help fuel the creation of additional opportunities in Bryan County, particularly in the e-commerce industry.”

When fully operational, Medline plans to hire 150 team members at its Richmond Hill Distribution Center handling about $750 million in annual sales. At full capacity Medline will have 600 employees at this location and anticipates spending over $2 million annually with local vendors to support operations.
