Medline Tuesday announced plans to redeploy its manufacturing capabilities in Hartland, WI, to produce hand sanitizer.
Teams are modifying equipment and ventilation systems for the new line so the company can begin producing an estimated 150,000 bottles weekly by mid-April. Hand hygiene remains top of mind for millions of Americans as experts continue to reinforce its critical role in curbing the spread of disease.
“This is an unprecedented time in healthcare with many unknowns,” said Group President Stu Schneider. “We knew we had to do something to help our customers and are working diligently to modify our space to bring this much needed product to market.”
The converting 300,000-square-foot facility has focused on infection prevention products. Current products include 2% chlorhexidine gluconate solution for Medline’s recently launched ReadyPrep CHG® Pre-Saturated Cloths designed to reduce surgical site infections, as well as skin antiseptics, body washes, lotions, over the counter drug products, povidone iodine and lubrication gel for the institutional marketplace.
Teams now working on povidone iodine production will be reassigned to the new line with production slated to happen five days a week. Schneider says the company may also hire more employees based on demand and availability of raw materials.
