Medline recognized for contributions to long-term care advocacy

Post-acute care leader receives award for advancing quality of care initiatives

2022 AHCA Opening Session

Medline was named an Executive Leadership Partner and recognized at the 2022 American Health Care Association/National Center for Assisted Living’s Convention & Expo for ongoing, high-level support for the organization and its long-term care advocacy efforts.

The healthcare company has been a sponsor of the American Health Care Association for 20-plus years, aiding the organization’s mission of advancing the quality of long-term care and creating strategies for navigating changing profession-related issues, including the nationwide staffing shortage and evolving regulations.

“Medline’s partnership with AHCA/NCAL is crucial in helping advance the entire long term care profession. The support from Medline enables us to offer care professionals enriching educational events, like our annual convention, as well as continue to effectively advocate for the profession in our nation’s capital,” said Mark Parkinson, president and CEO of AHCA/NCAL.

Representatives from Medline have served on the Political Action and Involvement Committee, and the Survey Regulatory Committee to target workforce and quality initiatives and participated in countless conferences, including the Quality Summit and CEO Multifacility Conference. Medline also is an AHCA/NCAL Pledge Partner, providing support for the organization during COVID-19.

“Partnering with AHCA/NCAL is truly a joint effort that brings together experts from across the country.  It allows us to share expertise and learn about how the needs of our customers continue to evolve so we can develop solutions that improve the lives of the residents, families and staff of our customers,” said Shawn Scott, vice president of strategic business development with Medline, who has served on the AHCA Board of Governors, the NCAL Board of Directors, the Political Action and Involvement Committee, and the Survey Regulatory Committee for 15-plus years.

Advancing long-term care solutions

Scott has also led Medline’s participation in the AHCA/NCAL Congressional Briefing to advocate for solutions to critical issues impacting care organizations. This year’s meetings with members of Congress included 500 long-term care providers and focused on the financial future of the industry and viable resources to increase access to care in communities. To recognize Scott’s commitment to the long-term care sector and advancing the needs of the country’s elderly and individuals with disabilities, AHCA/NCAL presented him with the Joe Warner Patient Advocacy Award at this year’s Congressional Briefing.

“Shawn Scott is a constituent of mine and it’s an honor to represent such an outstanding individual. I join in congratulating him for this outstanding achievement and thank him for his tireless efforts on behalf of our state’s long-term care patients,” said Illinois State Senate Leader Dan McConchie. “The pandemic had a significant impact on nursing homes, but Scott and Medline worked to ensure their needs were at the forefront during a time of crisis.”

To drive efficiencies within long-term care organizations and help them deliver high quality care, Scott helped develop Medline’s Long-Term Care Solutions, a series of staff engagement and quality management programs. For more than 10 years, Medline’s Post-Acute Care sales team has been building partnerships with technology solution providers to tackle timely workforce and quality management challenges. This includes abaqis by HealthStream to providing quality management systems and help customers with survey compliance, OnShift to improve workforce recruitment, management and retention, and HealthStream to help staff and meet training requirements through online education.
