Medline Critical Response™ Cleansing Cloths Named a Top Product Innovation for EMS

The cloths, which aid in the removal of potential carcinogens, are one of EMS Today’s Hot Products for 2020

The Journal of Emergency Medical Services (JEMS) has chosen Medline’s Critical Response™ Cleansing Cloths as a top product innovation for 2020. The cloths, which help firefighters remove soot and other potential carcinogens, are one of 10 products JEMS has named Hot Products for EMS Today, a conference & exposition taking place March 2-6, in Tampa, Florida.

Firefighters are frequently exposed to harmful materials and carcinogens while responding to emergencies. Medline developed its Critical Response Cleansing Cloths with their care in mind. The wipes help firefighters quickly remove soot and other potential carcinogens while on the scene.

“Emergency responders do a great job of putting patients first but we also want to ensure their safety and well-being is a top priority as well, so in developing our offerings for EMS, we’ve really focused on a two-pronged approach, emphasizing both patient and caregiver safety,” said Rhonda Baliff, Medline’s EMS national sales manager.

Medline leveraged its long history supplying cleansing wipes for patients in hospitals and nursing homes to create cleansing wipes specifically for first responders. Many EMS departments traditionally use ordinary baby wipes—which aren’t designed for the needs of first responders—to help remove soot from themselves while on the scene. Unlike baby wipes, Medline’s Critical Response Cleansing Cloths are made expressly for firefighters to help remove soot and other potential carcinogens.

The cloths are part of a broad portfolio of solutions Medline offers to help EMS workers protect themselves as well as patients while responding to emergencies. Other solutions part of the Critical Response line include Medline’s Nitrile Exam Gloves, high visibility orange gloves that meet the durability and strength standards of the National Fire Protection Association. Medline also offers products and solutions for:

  • helping prevent infection
  • clearing and maintaining patients’ airways and delivering oxygen
  • diagnosing patients during a medical emergency
  • delivering and disposing of medications
  • administering first aid
  • caring for wounds during trauma
  • immobilizing and moving patients
  • equipping stations

Critical Response™ Cleansing Cloths were selected as an EMS Today Hot Product by a panel of judges made up of EMS product specialists, physicians, educators, administrators and paramedics. The judges reviewed thirty products and valued them based on their originality, functionality, ease of use, and need in the EMS setting.

“The submissions this year included some truly innovative and out of the box products that will serve EMS providers and their patients well,” said JEMS Executive Editor and EMS Today Education Director Mike McEvoy said.
