Medline makes 15th appearance in Chicago Tribune’s top workplaces roundup

Inclusion in expanded rankings determined by survey responses from Chicago-area employees on company culture, job satisfaction

In a year in which Medline significantly expanded its Chicago-area footprint with additional offices in Northbrook, Ill., and at Chicago’s historic Merchandise Mart, the company continues to hold a place as one of the best-regarded employers in the area.

The Chicago Tribune released its “Top Workplaces 2025” list Friday morning, ranking Medline 42nd out of 57 companies in the “large” category for organizations with 1,000 or more local employees. That makes it 15 times Medline has made the list in the 16 years the Tribune has issued the rankings, starting in 2010.

The number of organizations selected for inclusion in the large category more than doubled this year, from 26 in 2024 to this year’s 57. Only four organizations have been included all 16 years, and only 13 have been included 10 times or more.

As in previous years, the rankings were based on surveys conducted by Energage (formerly WorkplaceDynamics), a workplace survey and improvement specialist organization based in Exton, Pa. Employees from 236 companies taking this year’s 26-question survey – including more than 5,200 employees invited to do so from Medline – were asked to report their degree of satisfaction in areas such as pay and benefits, company direction, leadership, meaningfulness of work and appreciation for their efforts.

Scores were aggregrated, with inclusion on the lists limited to organizations that exceeded national benchmarks that Energage has established over the last 19 years.

In addition to the Northbrook and Merchandise Mart locations, Medline maintains a strong Chicago-area presence at its global headquarters in Northfield, Ill., its largest distribution center in Grayslake and additional facilities in Mundelein, Waukegan, Libertyville and Arlington Heights.
