Quebec-Based Medical Supplies Distributor Acquired by Medline

Medline has acquired Dufort et Lavigne Ltée, a Montreal-based medical supplies distributor. With the addition of Dufort et Lavigne, Medline Canada takes its Quebec market share from 4 percent to 12 percent and moves into number two market position in the province. Additionally, the purchase gives Medline  a distribution infrastructure from coast-to-coast in Canada.

Medline has serviced the Canadian healthcare market for more than 15 years, and has worked with Dufort et Lavigne for more than 12 years. The two companies share similar histories as privately-held companies and cultures focused on being flexible and nimble for the customer. Dufort et Lavigne’s 76 employees in its Montreal warehouse join the more than 18,000 global Medline employees.

Medline closed the acquisition on June 11 and anticipates the integration of Dufort et Lavigne employees and customers will span into 2019. The Quebec team will continue to be led by the current Dufort et Lavigne president, Yves Dufort, reporting to Ernie Philip, president of Medline Canada.
