Medline jumps to 16th among Chicago Tribune’s top workplaces in area

Continued efforts to create and sustain a positive and productive culture lead to another improved ranking in company’s 14th year on list

In its call for nominations for this year’s “Top Workplaces” list, the Chicago Tribune wrote that an elite organization is successful “because its employees enjoy their work, embrace their mission and feel like valued teammates.”

Medline more than fit the bill – again.

In rankings unveiled publicly Friday morning, the company placed 16th out of 26 chosen Chicago-area companies in the “large” company category (1,000 local employees or more), a three-spot improvement from its No. 19 ranking (out of 26) in 2023 and seven spots up from No. 23 (out 0f 28) in 2022. It was also the 14th time Medline has been recognized on the Tribune list since its inception.

This year’s results were again based on surveys conducted by Energage (formerly WorkplaceDynamics) of thousands of employees at Chicago-area companies with at least 100 employees. Inclusion on the list and specific rankings were determined by how much employees felt valued, respected, supported, empowered and engaged, as well as their perceptions of fair pay, benefits, work flexibility and opportunities to grow their careers.

“The dedication Medline shows every day to its customers across healthcare is closely tied to the environment we create for our employees,” said Christopher Shryock, chief human resources officer for Medline. “We make healthcare run better, but it’s the people here who make Medline run. We want all of our employees to feel seen for their contributions, supported in their work and connected with their colleagues – so that they can make a difference for our customers. Our continued recognition as a Chicago Tribune Top Workplace shows how successful we have been over the years in doing that.”

Medline is frequently named a “best” and “top” workplace. In 2024 alone, it was named to Forbes’ lists of American’s best large employersemployers for women, employers for new graduates and employers by state, as well as Newsweek’s lists of the best workplaces for diversity and women. Medline is also among Becker’s Top 150 Places to Work in Healthcare.
