Employee engagement events a regular thank you to dedicated employees

For the 8th straight year, and for nine of the last 10, Medline Industries, Inc. has been named a Chicago Tribune Top Workplace. The list, based solely on anonymous survey feedback from employees of participating companies, measures their feelings on several aspects of workplace culture.
While many Medline employees will tell you it’s the drive, collaboration and entrepreneurial spirit of coworkers that has propelled Medline to more than 50 consecutive years of growth, they also enjoy events that make coming to work at Medline a unique experience.
Employee Appreciation Week
When co-founder Jim Mills laid out his original principles for Medline, he noted in part that, “…the management of the company will run the company for the total workforce of the company…” One employee-focused event that brings that spirit to life is Employee Appreciation Week, an annual week of recognition for employees across the country.
In the Chicagoland area alone, employees are treated to a variety of events big and small designed as a way to say thank you to employees and help build positive engagement.
“Every year, company leadership challenges the committee to come up with new ways to show appreciation and create a week that gives employees a chance to socialize with others across departments and divsions,” said Mark Polisky, Director of Communications and EAW committee lead. “From puppy adoption events to bringing in food trucks for lunch, every activity is designed with one goal in mind – to show how appreciated employees are at Medline.”
As a fourth generation, family owned and operated company, few events bring the extended Medline family together much like Halloween at the Northfield headquarters.
Departments and divisions across the company bring their office wings to life with fully immersive decorations and themes, and the annual employee Halloween contest is always a must-see event. But it’s in the afternoon when employees bring their families in for “trick-or-treating” that you can see the excitement that is unique to working at a family owned company that still puts family first.
“Halloween is a truly unique experience at Medline. It builds camaraderie within teams and some friendly competition between teams. We see costumes and decorations get more elaborate year over year,” said Olivia Stewart, Vice President Organizational Development and chief Halloween coordinator. “Everyone strives to make Halloween an unforgettable experience for the families and, of course, the kids.”
With nearly 24,000 employees globally and nearly 4,000 in the Chicagoland area, Medline prides itself on ensuring employees with a unique work experience. From state of the art facilities, to fun activities designed to instill a sense of pride and togetherness, everything contributes to Medline’s main goal each day – encouraging employees to be innovative and create customized solutions for our customers.
