The 20+ Club: Pascual Avina

A series spotlighting Medline employees who have been with the company 20 years or longer

This profile also appears in the Spring 2026 edition of Medlines, an in-house newsletter for Medline employees.

Name: Pascual Avina
Title: Warehouse assistant, distribution center
Current location: Tolleson, Ariz.
Started with Medline: April 2005

HOW IT BEGAN: “When I first came to Medline at the smaller building we had in Tolleson [before 2016], I was loading and unloading trucks, picking, receiving, restocking — some of everything because we had fewer people then. Not a lot has changed with the kinds of work I do, except that now I have lighter duty. In the mornings, I’m usually in receiving, and in the afternoons I’m picking products until the picking is done and it’s time to go home. I like that it’s not always the same thing.”

MORE PEOPLE, MORE PRECAUTIONS: “There have been a lot of other changes over 21 years, but the changes are good — everything is really nice. We started with 12 employees in the old building, then later 20. Right now it’s over 300 people, which is really, really different. There’s a lot of new equipment, especially safety equipment, and we have even more safety employees watching over how things are run. Medline has always been very serious about safety.”

STEADY AND SATISFYING: “I like the people I work with, especially the people who run our warehouse. New supervisors sometimes ask me why I’ve stayed here for more than 20 years. It’s just because I like doing my job, and also the focus on safety and the security. My favorite part is when warehouse managers will make requests for employees to help on special teams and projects, and I always try to provide the best work I can. It means a lot when they say, ‘Thank you for the job that you do for Medline.’ The management is excellent.”

A MEDLINE MARRIAGE: “My wife also came to work for Medline for 10 years before she had problems with her knees. We worked together here at this location but in different areas, so I might see her for 15 minutes or half an hour during the day. Sometimes we would get together on our breaks or for lunch. It was nice. I’m still not far from her. I live close to Medline, only five minutes away.”

PROUD PAPA: “I have four grown daughters. One is an optometrist, one is in business management, one is a medical assistant and one is a manager at Starbucks while she finishes school. They’re all doing very well.”

OUTSIDE OF WORK, YOU’LL PROBABLY FIND ME: “Just relaxing and enjoying my seven grandkids, especially right now when they’re little. One is 18, one is 9, and the rest are only 3 or 4 years old. I also like to garden, cutting and arranging little trees. I have my little garden in my backyard, although in Arizona, it’s really, really hot for three or four months of the year, so it’s harder to do a lot outside.”

NO. 1 LESSON FROM MEDLINE: “Listen. You’ll do a great job if you listen and always try to do your best.”
