Medline webinar to highlight new ANA safe patient handling & mobility guidelines

Moving and handling patients can be hazardous for healthcare workers and patients, potentially causing debilitating injuries. At 11 a.m. CST on Thursday, Nov. 18, 2021, Medline will host a webinar on the new American Nurses Association (ANA) Safe Patient Handling & Mobility (SPHM) guidelines.
“The Safe Patient Handling & Mobility Journey Continues – ANA Standards 2nd Edition,” will feature Ruth Francis, MPH, MCHES, ANA senior policy advisor. She will discuss the new ANA standards 2nd Edition, and specifically:
- The value of using the new safe patient handling guidelines.
- The usefulness of SPHM programs.
- The eight ANA standards and how they are implemented.
- Available SPHM resources.
Ruth Francis has over 25 years of international, corporate, association, government and community health education and promotion experience and works for the ANA where she is a senior policy advisor in the Nursing Practice & Work Environment Department. Ruth currently leads ANA’s Occupational Health Initiatives – Safe Patient Handling & Mobility, #End Nurse Abuse and Bullying Prevention, Opioids Prevention, and Gun Violence Prevention, representing ANA at national and federal stakeholder meetings. She is also co-staff lead for the National Commission to Address Racism in Nursing, and involved in ANA’s Healthy Nurse, Healthy Nation™ and COVID-19 Education efforts.
