Every year, Medline presents a breast cancer awareness breakfast at the Association of periOperative Registered Nurses (AORN) Global Surgical Conference and Expo. Perioperative nurses from around the world were invited to Medline’s 13th annual breakfast in New Orleans, La. on March 26, to support the cause and spark awareness.
This year, attendees had the chance to discuss finding strength and balance in their mind, body and spirit with guest speaker, LeAnn Thieman, who is a nurse, inspirational speaker and best-selling author.
Thieman asked nurses, “What is the number one priority in your life and are you living it?” An emphasis was placed on the importance of finding work life balance in nurses’ hectic lives.
Thieman’s work includes Chicken Soup for the Caregiver’s Soul, Chicken Soup for the Soul, Inspiration for Nurses and SelfCare for HealthCare. Thieman has over 30 years of nursing experience under her belt and uses her own stories to inspire fellow nurses to care for themselves as much as they care for others.
Thieman found herself at the bedside of two of her sisters battling breast cancer, so the initiative of Medline’s breakfast is near and dear to her heart.
The Medline Breakfast at AORN brings perioperative nurses together every year to spread breast cancer awareness and celebrate with survivors. Over the years, Medline has donated over $2 million to different breast cancer charities. The donations have gone toward programs for early detection and awareness.
Every year attendees join together early in the morning to eat, learn the “Pink Glove Dance” and spread awareness for a great cause. If you missed the breakfast this year, Medline will be hosting the breakfast at AORN 2019 in Nashville, Tennessee.
